Bob's long-time bredren, ace percussionist Larry McDonald, is poised to release his first album (at the tender age of 72!) on MCPR Music. Drumquestra will be out on June 1st, and is a highly recommended reflection of Larry's rich and varied career across multiple musical genres. Bob's trademark scatting on "Got Jazz?" forms a backdrop for Larry's homage to Jamaica's jazz community. Listen and learn! For further info, please visit www.mcprmusic.com . |

As many of you know, Rototom is the premier Italian reggae festival, now celebrating its 15th year. Bob took part in the Rototom press conference at Strawberry Hill in Kingston on 30th May and will be appearing at the festival on Saturday, 5th July. This event runs for 10 days in all and takes place in the Parco del Rivellino in Osoppo, in the province of Udine (approximately 100km from Venice). For further information check out:
Rototom Sunsplash Website . Rototom Follow-up from The Beat no. 4 2008 - in his review of the festival, Dave Katz wrote: "… after a public discussion with some visiting residents of Shashamane and some brilliant thoughts from Bob Andy on Rastafari … Andy took the stage on Sunday afternoon to deliver one of the event's most outstanding performances; his humility, charisma and originality left everyone with a smile on their face." |

To Bobby Ellis, Professor and every member of Yardbeat: blessings & respect. Thanks to all at SNWMF, and greetings to the many lovely people we met, or became re-acquainted with, in Boonville. Special thanks to our local “fixer” Linda B for her sterling support. And finally - appreciation to Dave Katz for use of the photo! (… which tells the story of Bob’s AWOL luggage quite succinctly …). There are more great photos of Bob and all the artists on the Sierra Nevada site.

Bob's new single in combination with Luciano on the Kiana riddim is "Create Our History", released on Altafaan Records. Another great cut to Kiana is Jr. Kelly's ""Creator". Altafaan is a relatively new label, but appears to be going from strength to strength. "Create Our History" is available via Dub Vendor in the UK, Ernie B in the U.S., various outlets in Japan, and is distributed via One Love in Europe. “Create Our History” is available via Dub Vendor in the UK, Ernie B in the U.S., various outlets in Japan, and is distributed via One Love in Europe. We disappeared from the net this summer due to our previous provider's hard drive crash - but we are very happy to welcome you to our new home. Because of the technical problems, we didn't get a chance to give proper thanks after the gigs - for their wonderful hospitality and incredibly hard work - to Jerome Levasseur and all his crew at Zones d'Arts in Paris … and the same true appreciation goes out to Paul Fingleton, Pete Kinsella, Kate & Cathal in Dublin. We'd also like to say a big thank you to Sinead O'Connor for joining Bob on stage in Dublin in a storming cameo appearance. Sinead's new album (Throw Down Your Arms) with Sly & Robbie, along with her live appearances with them, have showcased not only her unique talent, but also her sincere love for Jamaican music and its uplifting message. G'wan Sinead! Sept.: Congratulations again to Andre Bertrand - along with his assistants John Murray-Smith (London) and solicitor Delma Pryce (Jamaica) - for successfully distributing broadcast royalties from the French society ADAMI (which collects for featured artists' airplay) to close to 150 Jamaican artists. Even the powerful organisation PPL (which represents all UK record companies) has so far been unable to achieve receipt of this legally-required remuneration from ADAMI! On behalf of Bob Andy, Marcia Griffiths, and all reggae artists who benefited from this distribution we send to Andre a big thank you, and also best wishes for all his current work - which includes pursuing similar settlements from SPEDIDAM (for backing musicians) and SCPP (for producers) in France, and over the long term, from the other European societies which have yet to recognise equal rights for the music of Jamaica. |

Congratulations to Andre Bertrand, the eminent intellectual property lawyer, for his victory at the Court of Paris on 13th April. He has won damages on behalf of Max Romeo and Winston McAnuff for illegal pressings of their albums in France. This follows his recent success in the pursuit of broadcast royalties from the French society ADAMI on behalf of all Jamaican artists. For far too long, the creators of Jamaican music have not benefited from the same rights as their peers in mainstream musical genres. We wish Monsieur Bertrand continued blessings in his campaign to end this inequity. For further information check www.definiterecords.net/legal_news.html. |

Paris calling: Bob paid a short visit to the French capital for a series of radio and press interviews ahead of his forthcoming performance at Les Zicalizes (an annual festival in the Paris suburbs) on May 14th. Although it's difficult to believe given Bob's globe-trotting history, this will be his first-ever performance in France!

| In January, Bob fulfilled a lifelong dream - to visit Africa. He spent two weeks in Kenya, before travelling to Addis Ababa, arriving just before the Africa Unite concert which celebrated the 60th anniversary of Bob Marley's birth. |
Thanks to Julian at www.reggaephotos.de - click on the link to see more great photos. |

Bob was invited by Rita Marley to perform two songs during the massive February 6th concert. At sunset, Bob sang "My Time" and "I've Got to Go Back Home", with impromptu backing from the 12 Tribes Band from Shashemane. The following day, he sang for the President of Ethiopia: Bob was accompanied by Cedella Booker's keyboard player on two Marley favourites, "Johnny Was A Good Man" and "Redemption Song." Other artists performing at the President's Palace included the I-Threes, Lauryn Hill and Cedric Brooks. Bob's pilgrimage continued with a stay at Shashemane. He performed again with King's Highway, the 12 Tribes Band, headlining two benefit concerts - the first in Shashemane, and a week later in Nazareth. |
